Reasons for Competing

Assess Reasons/Goals for Competing: Why am I Competing? (1 of 6)

Whether it is verbalized or not, every woman has a reason they start competing. Maybe it was the inspiring transformation story that was read, or the motivation from watching a competition. Maybe it was the next logical step for you as a former athlete or the motivation needed to get your body back in shape after becoming a mother. Maybe you wanted to become a fitness model, or possibly you just opted for a new challenge in life. Regardless of the reason, your true motives for competing should be assessed prior to getting on stage. It may seem unimportant in the beginning, but based on your goals, the organization you select may help or hinder your success. Some organizations are great with media exposure, which is beneficial for women who desire to grace the covers of magazines, while others are simply cut and dry offering trophies, medals, or cash prizes for those who seek to gain compensation from the sport. Additionally, others are less political with straightforward judging, for those who are die hard competitors. Developing a clear understanding of why you have chosen to compete can help you select the proper organization to best meet your competition needs and goals.
